Dr Horrible is Here…

2nd September 2008 · 2 Comments

… well the album is finally available on iTunes internationally, anyway. You can get the link from DrHorrible.com.

I’ve been having lots of fun singing all the songs and have carefully cut and pasted all the lyrics into the info so I can see them on my iPod, so probably safest not to venture into Worcester for a while.

All together now…

Go ahead – run away
Say it was horrible
Spread the word – tell a friend
Tell them the tale
Get a pic – do a blog
Heroes are over with
Look at him – not a word
Hammer, meet nail

Kitchen Fun

Due to sinusitis (I know, on top of everything – icky) I’ve been a bit remiss in updating you on this week’s tenant: Kitchen Fun. This time my guess from the title was correct – Kitchen Fun is indeed a recipe blog (and a very drool worthy recipe blog at that).

Pretty much something in there for everyone, whatever your favourite food is – and most importantly, the archive categories are arranged really sensibly – entrees, poultry, crockpot (translation: slow cooker for us brits), etc so finding an appropriate recipe isn’t a chore. Personally, I’m itching to try the Double Chocolate Raspberry Pudding…. YUM!

Taste The World

Self-confessed attention whore (ooo, we have something in common already!) C.M.Chase is the author of this week’s showcase blog: Taste The World. Given the title I was expecting a travelogue filled with exotic recipes, but on the whole I’m glad it wasn’t because I’ve been laughing like a drain since I clicked. (Random aside: “laughing like a drain” – what a bizarre idiom. Do drains find the world particularly funny? Enquiring minds need to know).

Instead, her posts are a healthy mix of reminiscences, observations and insights into her life written with a dash of sarcastic and self-depreciating humour. Her recent tribute to her grandfather is particularly moving and poignant, but she still had me smiling throughout. I’m still giggling over the thought of Jesus needing a microwave and on the whole, remind me not to eat at her place – particularly if there’s any cans of cat food about…

Do visit. Taste The World is worth it.

Rough Draft

My first thought on clicking through to Rough Draft: “Ooo… nice layout and design”.

Second thought: “Yay! Proper paragraphs!”

I then found myself reading a meme in interest – ME! I hardly ever read memes, almost always skip them as I never saw the point of reading the same thing over and over at every blog you visit – so d.challener roe’s site is setting a new precedent for me.

I might be in the process of being overly effusive, but this site really is a lovely read. The author is a writer, reader and fellow nerd – what’s not to like? The entries are compelling, well-written, grammatically correct and infused with a sense of humour. I really think this is a site I’m going to be reading a long time in the future.

Music, sports and telly addicts are likely to enjoy this week’s blog – Scooter McGavin’s 9th Green.

Scooter hails from Ohio and he certainly knows his stuff with plenty of detailed reviews. If you fancy yourself a bit of a music expert, be sure to have a go at his monthly lyrics quiz.

My only complaint would be that it’s a little advert heavy, but if you can look past that then it’s worth a read.

This week’s tenant is Haunted House Dressing – a blog “where toasters run free and hippos climb trees” (just don’t tell my Tefal bready appliance – it was hard enough enticing it to our house in the first place).

It’s a bizarre, but oddly appealing site – I struggled to work out which bits were sidebar and which bits were blog entries, but worth taking the time to find your way around. The entries are a mix of artwork, photo-comics, poetry, zombies, stories and many many random insanities. Very easy to lose yourself in there for an hour or two…

Mystickal Incense and More

This week’s tenant is Mystickal Incense & More Blog – proof that you can mix the personal with business after all.

First impressions of the blog is its colour scheme and design: warm, vibrant and busy. In fact, it appears to match the author very well, as Stephanie comes across as very warm, vibrant and busy too! I have to confess, that at first I had misgivings with the idea of product promotion mixed in with a personal blog – but was pleasantly surprised at the very occasional “ooo look, new stuff!” feel to the product updates (Stephanie makes candles, incense and bath products from home) – certainly not in your face, and if that’s not your thing you still get lots of good bloggy content to enjoy.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of this blog is Stephanie’s writing style. She’s a rambler. How she sorts out her posts into categories, I’ll never know because you can start on one subject and have diverged completely into another by the end of the post! It’s a lovely energetic style that just kept me smiling. She also has some SPECTACULAR rants, so don’t miss those. All in all, well worth a visit.

Scary Personals

This week’s showcase blog, Scary Personals, will either have you laughing your head off or shaking your head in despair at the photos people will use in personal ads. Either way, it’s a cracking read. Sort of car crash blogging – you know you shouldn’t be staring, but you just … can’t … look … the … other … way. WHAT were they THINKING?!

Anyway, go click … you know you want to. Just don’t be surprised if you look up and you’ve wasted half your evening…

This week’s renter is Life As Lou.

Lou is many things – she describes herself as “Mother of two, Air Force Wife, Uprooted North Dakotan, Writer, Photographer, LDS, Control Freak, Creative, Curvy, Cute, Impatient, Amusing, Sleep Deprived, Musical, Crunchy, Silly, Serious, Honest, Compassionate, Irritable, Charismatic, Weird, Loyal, Religious, Astute, Appreciative, Virtuous, Conservative, Obsessive, Super-Duper Supreme Tushie Wiper and Owie Kisser Extrordinaire” – it’s no coincidence that “boring” is a trait not listed there.

Her writing is great: one minute funny, the next a fiery rant, then insightful. I particularly loved the story of one of her childhood Christmases with her mother’s attempt to delay the unwrapping of presents – it was a lovely moment to share, and you do feel you were right there with her.

One of the best places to browse the blog, though, is via the categories. Most bloggers I know have fairly serious-sounding category names – you get the odd “pepping up” of category titles just to make them sound a bit more interesting, but Lou’s are great with categories such as “vomit”, “ta-tas” and “fecal matter”.

Definitely worth a visit!

This week’s guest is Therapy in the Making – someone else who uses my favourite tagline: “Therapy is expensive. Blogging is cheap. You do the math.”

I really don’t know how to do proper justice to this great UK blog. It’s funny, but that’s such an inadequate way of describing it – the humour has a self-depreciating energetic rambling style; there wasn’t a single post I didn’t read with a smile on my face and definitely more than a few genuine laugh out loud moments.

In terms of the blog layout, it’s easy to read and navigate. The text, while rambling at times, is well punctuated and paragraphed and is black text on a white background – that may seem minor, but is certainly something that contributes to me revisiting a blog. It’s easy to browse the archives, there’s an RSS feed and regular updates. I’ll definitely be revisiting long after the “rental” period!
