Pewari's Prattle: Writer, Fighter, Geek

And so it begins…

4th June 2009 · 3 Comments

The boys have obviously had an Internet Safety talk at school today. They’ve come home filled with excitement and wanting to email all their friends.

Also rather disturbingly, Akra Jr (who is only 8 years old) wanted to know when he could get his own computer and mobile phone.

Oh… I don’t know… how about Two Thousand and NEVER!

Gulp. I want a pause button on them growing up, please.

Our 5-year-old neighbour (boy) has a mobile. As does the 9-year-old boy next door – in fact I once heard his mother berate him for losing his phone all the time and it cost £200.

My two don’t even ask, they know what the answer would be!

Apart from consumeristic urges, did they learn anything useful?

Yeah, they learnt what blackmail was (I can only assume that they had a talk about what they shouldn’t use email for: bullying, blackmail etc! Akra Jr came home saying “I want to email X. It’s okay, I don’t want to blackmail him”!!)

    Oh wow, blackmail!!!

Jeez, don’t you wonder if they are perhaps filling their heads with things they shouldn’t be stressing about at that age? Specifically I know that my two were really upset when climate change was explained to them in environment class, thinking that the world was going to end horribly!

Naturally they should be aware but let them be 7 (and 8 for Akra jr.)
