In which I loathe the sound of my own voice, talk about school admissions and dream of the day I find a real life friend who gets all my nerdy references.

I rather liked the segues. Also I wonder if there’s a category on say, craigslist or similar that could be used as a nerd-finder…

I’ve now got an image of a guy running around the country, dressed up like Matthew Hopkins, shouting out “I AM THE NERD-FINDER GEN-ER-AL… ARE YOU A NERD?”

How dare you! Geeks are normal people too! Gosh! You need to learn some tolerance or we might have to start having geek parades just to teach you.
lol
Pee ess: You did great with the podcast. You’ll get faster once you get more used to it and your voice is just fine! =)

Would geeks really want to shake hands though? Isn’t that to RL for them? Surely some cyber-nod would be better. Or perhaps a range of geek clothing that upon wearing, identifies one as a geek? I’m not talking ‘Global Hypercolor’ t-shirts or something, I’d be thinking of RFID or something similar. That way, when two geeks are in relatively close proximity, if they have common interests, their sleeve would vibrate or the collar could chirp.
Of course, I realise now I have thought abotu this far too long and hard – I only wanted to ask what the clicking was in the recording and you got me sidetracked!

See in my current life everything works via Yahoo anyway. Just post to the Bangalore_Expats group and ask if anyone living on my side of town is interested in XYZ and fancies meeting for a coffee. (or where to find Demerara sugar, a decent tailor or a good school…) I love it, because I can be outgoing without being, well, outgoing.

bc: sort of like WANTED: Nerd Friends. Must recognise all references to Jonathan Coulton lyrics, Buffy and Torchwood, and listen to at least 5 obscure podcasts on a regular basis. Apply to… ?
Bowch: now that is a scary image.
Colin: eep! It’s not my fault – it was what I was told growing up! Actually, this is why I love the internet – a whole different definition of normal. Being a geek is cool on here. And thanks – must get out of the habit of stopping every five seconds and thinking “ARGH, that was shit… rerecord”.
Sylvia: *hides your notebook*
Ayrt: good point about the handshake, I really didn’t think that one through. I’m liking the RFID idea, apart from the fact that I used to be a member of NO2ID ;) The clicking was my mouse clicking off the recording every time I f*cked up… so is around every five seconds or so… see above ;)
Jane: so you’re telling me I need to be an expat? AKRA….!

I am glad your children will go to the same school. It would seem cruel to the parents otherwise.

Its fun to train your non techie friends to use things and watch as they gradually join in with these activities. Then you get excited geeks!!

Tami: yes, I know some councils don’t have the sibling rule – just don’t know HOW you’re supposed to get two children to school on time when they go to different schools when they’re too young to get there on their own steam…
Miss L: welcome back from your trip! Did the Asus eee work out well for you? Re: non-techie friends – I have one who doesn’t even OWN a computer! I suspect it may be hard work to get her to join in…!
