Pewari's Prattle: Writer, Fighter, Geek

Keeping Quiet

11th April 2008 · 10 Comments

This audio post, I am trying to make a concerted effort to relax and not have too many notes. So as a result you can now play “Um and Er” Bingo.

Even better, turn it into a drinking game and have a shot of vodka for every “um” and “er” and I guarantee you’ll be under the table by the end of the two minutes.

If you have any burning questions you want to ask me, feel free to add them to the comments of this entry and I’ll give myself a grilling interview next week some time…

I promise to ask myself all the really hard-hitting soul-searching questions and then give myself lots of evasive answers.

The background noise is a quite acceptable level, and you sound more natural without notes. I didn’t really notice any umming and erring.

Oh. And you should let people know that if they subscribe to Prattle in iTunes they’ll automatically get just the audio posts as a podcast.

That’s good – I’m glad the background noise isn’t too annoying.

That banging in the background isn’t me messing around at the desk, it’s the wind lifting the tiles in the roof above me and them crashing back down – so must remember to put my good weather order in before I start next time, too!

How do you subscribe in itunes to it … do you just download to itunes (which isn’t really subscription, is it? As I haven’t got it to go into the podcast directory then…) or is there a cleverer way?

Ah, found the URL it needs to subscribe to:

Will try and find an easy add to iTunes subscribe button doohickey!

Too much quietness creeps me out. I feel like I’m in a thriller and the rest of the population has been zombiefied and will attack me in the next couple of seconds. lol

Getting a headset with a mic on it is best for things like that because you can set it to not enhance the audio and won’t pick up the distant noises as much. I must say there was hardly any background noise this time.

To subscribe to a podcast through iTunes you first need to publish your podcast feed. Go to the podcasts area of the iTunes Store and scroll down and to the right you’ll see the links for the podcasters. It’s fairly straightforward, just submit the podcast category feed http://pewari.may.be/category/audio-posts/feed/ and it will automatically pick up your new podcasts whenever you post them.

    :)

Hehehe… I don’t suppose you know of a one button clicky type subscription box plugin I can use though that goes into iTunes? I shall hit Google anyway and see what I can find.

I *may* be getting a loan of this fine beastie to try out, which should make no end of improvements on audio quality.

As far as I know it’s the best plug in for podcast integration in WordPress. I have used it for many clients and the company I used to work at. Once set up it’s very easy to use as it’ll do everything for you. =)
