Okay, I may have a New Year’s Resolution.
On the first of January, according to Naan family tradition, we went to visit a zoo with the kids. It’s a good choice – they get to run around and see lots of interesting animals, we get to take lots of photos. It’s a win-win.
What’s that got to do with resolutions? Well, now I’m starting to work my way through all the photographs I took and process some of them, I realise that I haven’t a clue what most of the poor creatures are.
So, next time, I’m going to remember to take a photo of the enclosure label after each and every animal shot. It would have made my life so much easier.

I do that with plants, then you sound very knowledgeable when spouting the name!!

You kidding me?
“Here’s a bird…it’s blue and green…it has a beak.”
Check me out, I’m Bill Oddie and nary a label in sight.

That’s a beautiful bird! Don’t feel bad about not knowing the names; most people don’t. I know I don’t!

Kal: you’ve got it spot on, well done!
I’ve since found out it’s a sort of Macaw – Primolius auricollis to be precise :) Now you can all be very impressed indeed… ;)

I think that there are Flickr groups where you can post pictures and other group users will try to identify them. They’re called “Identify This Animal” and stuff like that.

Add to that when you take photos at museums or historic places and then looking back realise you can’t remember what that place/thing was called and why it was important enough to take the photo in the first place!

Pete: yes, I’ve seen those before – I feel a bit guilty though if I stick EVERY animal picture I take in there ;)
Paula: oh yes, I’ve had my share of those too!
