The Camera Saga

16th January 2007 · 6 Comments

Well, the following article might explain why, a week later, I still didn’t have an estimated delivery date for my new camera this morning: worldwide shortage of stock from Nokia and Canon. Typical. They just knew I was going to order a DSLR, didn’t they?!

Still, due to stunning lack of communication by the company I originally ordered from, including (but not limited to) no indication that the item was out of stock until after I was expecting it to arrive, I have cancelled.

So I have had to accidentally hit the checkout button and accidentally fill in my address and credit card details again – with Jessops this time – who, ironically given the above article, are one of the few places that do have stock of the Canon 400D (albeit in silver rather than black).

Should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully.

Update: just got the dispatch notice – yay for Jessops!

Jessops will (or would when I bought my camera) price match to major internet retailers like Amazon. I suspect this might be the sort of information you would have preferred yesterday.

lucky you ! you won’t regret it. canon’s are such beauties.

i’ve a 350D which i love, so much in fact that i upgraded my carry-with-me-always compact for a canon IXUS 850IS which is gorgeous too.

i’ve also started using Downloader Pro to manage my file uploads from camera, which is especially handy when i have two cameras which can potentially have the same file name on the same day !

ian: I knew that – well I did :) Apparently they don’t do that any more, according to Worcester branch. All was not lost though, in combination with their sale offer plus cashback via Freefivers, it’s about the same price as the original deal.

dave: I’m also a big fan of Canons – loved my old ixus, my current camera (at least until later today – it’s been loaded on the van ready for delivery now, yay! I love tracking parcels…) is an A620 which is an amazing camera for the price and size – just wanted something a little more flexible now :)

    Ooooo I’m so excited!

    *jealous*

Not that I take enough pictures to warrant a DSLR, but if I had one, I would make time.

Erm, what were you planning to do with your A620?

Jessops only price match if they have the item in stock. Which we found out before Christmas, we used Amazon and saved £120 on my Canon S3 IS. Not quite ready for the DSLR yet so will watch your photographs with interest!

TigerFeet: My A620 will still be in service as my handbag camera on days I can’t drag out the entire DSLR. Sorry :)

Paula: I think that might be it – with a shortage of 400Ds at the moment, they’re certainly under no pressure to price match!
