Sodding Car Park Pillars!

2nd June 2006 · 7 Comments

Yellow Scrape MarksWHY do they put those pillars in car parks?

You know the ones – the narrow metal girders (to save space) but then some evil bastard planner gave a twisted smirk and made the bases really wide, just low enough to be impossible to see. Then, to add insult to injury, they use bright yellow paint so the scrape shows up really nicely on the side of your car when you misjudge it.

Of course, it’s my own stupid fault. I should have not let the guy travelling inches from my bumper phase me and taken more time over getting into the space. To compound my error, I let instinct rule on hearing the sickening crunch sound and yelled “oh SHIT!” Which would have been okay, but my five year old was in the back.

Akra Jr hasn’t repeated it… yet.

Can’t afford to get it repaired at the moment, so my poor little Micra will have to remain scarred for a while. Still, top marks to Akra who cheerfully strolled in this evening brandishing a bottle of T-Cut Metallic and declaring “oh, it’s not that bad a scrape, is it?” and “don’t worry, it’s only a car!”.

I think I’ll keep him.

That’s nothing compared to what I did to my car in a carpark once. Just count yourself lucky :)

Oh go on, do tell. Make me feel better :)

I know they are only cars, but I am sure they have feelings! Herbie certainly does….

I took my car in for a service once, then reversed it into a pillar on the forecourt of the garage when I came to drive it home. How I laughed. Did slightly more than mark the paint-work, I can tell you.

Ugh KK – those forecourts are always horribly crammed in aren’t they? Still, count your blessings you didn’t hit one of the really expensive sports cars on show instead…

Oh sympathies… the times I’ve nearly done that… and I’ll never buy a car with colour-coded mirrors as I’m forever catching mine on concrete pillars in car parks. It’s OK when they’re black as you can just rub on some Back-to-Black.

    Did the T-cut work?

Haven’t actually got around to it yet. According to the bottle we need to wash the car first, so that’ll be at the weekend at the earliest.

Akra is quite hopeful that the T-cut will clean up most of it, so fingers crossed…
