Sometimes, reading aloud from the local newspaper is a really bad idea. Especially when the article in question is about a much beloved local goat who was poisoned by thugs last week. Doubly especially when one’s 3 year old is in the room and listening.
As soon as I said the words and I heard a little voice saying “but I *love* Daisy May”, I knew I had done the wrong thing. It’s one thing trying to explain death to a three year old, but a malicious killing of a favoured animal? All the local nurseries around here change their walk routes to go past Daisy May – a mild mannered, friendly goat who never did anyone any harm. Small children idolize her.
Sometimes, the world we live in sucks.

What a senseless thing to do to. I hope they catch the ingrates that did this.

Very upset. Wanted to know who did it and why (how do you explain *that* one?!) In the end came to the conclusion that a monster killed Daisy May… don’t think he’s far wrong, actually…

Poor you having to explain the actions of cretins to your little man! It is so hard to protect them from finding out what horrible people live in this world sometimes.
Unbelievable that thugs could do that to an innocent animal. Actually, scratch that, unfortunately it is all too believable.

I’m sorry to hear about that, no doubt my mum will send me the cutting. Let’s hope he puts it out of his mind quickly. Sounds like a lot of parents will be trying to explain that the best they can.
