Mental Reminder for next year: Do NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES no matter HOW ORGANISED AND how well you order IN ADVANCE – DO NOT TRUST AMAZON TO GET YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS OUT ON TIME!
You really think I would have learned by now not to buy anything time critical on Amazon especially for Christmas, wouldn’t you?! Still, I thought ordering three toys via their site on 2nd December all displaying 24 hour dispatch was a fairly safe bet at the time. How wrong could I be?!
It suddenly occurred to me a week ago, that I still hadn’t received the order (realised they were missing from my “things still to wrap” pile) so I check “Where’s My Stuff” and am horrified to see that delivery date is estimated to be 18th-21st December. I email them and ask if that’s likely to be definite as it was getting awfully close to Christmas. I get a form email back explaining how their dispatch times work and that one of the toys is 1-2 week delivery – ignoring the fact that a) it was originally 24 hour dispatch, and b) 1-2 week delivery should still have got here by now.
I’m feeling a bit nervous, but they’ll still get here, right? I can just make a special trip to give my friend’s kid his present after all. Then yesterday I receive another standard email apologising but due to further delays I won’t receive the toy for another 1-2 weeks.
BASTARDS.
So now, despite being horribly organised this year and getting all my Christmas shopping done online early December, I’m in a rush again. It’s too late to order from another online retailer and get it here in time. I’m going to have to go out into town during the busiest week of the year with a three year old and a seven month old – just what I was trying to avoid in the first place.
Thanks Amazon. And a Merry Christmas to you too.

Sounds like time to cancel the order. If it hasn’t shipped, it can be cancelled.

Apparently you aren’t the only one – http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4120433.stm
That said, I ordered all my pressies from them and they arrived only a couple of days later than the predicted date. Guess I was just lucky here (fortunately for my family and boyfriend!)
Found your blog via Purple Elephant – its very entertaining!

I have had the same experience….4 of 5 things I ordered have not arrived despite my ordering on 10th December and paying £10 extra for first class delivery. All of these items are showing on the website as dispatch within 24 hours. A complaint via their website got me a gift certificate of £5 (only half my postage – not exactly generous) but no reassurance of the items coming in time for christmas. I made a further complaint about this lack of reassurance and they tell me they shipped by royal mail today, with no tracking method available. The least they could have done is sent it by express courier, as the delay was theirs and they are selling stuff under false descriptions of expected delivery times. Maybe trading standards should be informed?

I am waiting for an item ordered 6 Nov.
I pay by cheque so they have had my money since 6 November and I still havent had my item.
It was me that had to remind them, then they sent two emails. Both cut and pasted from standard replies and neither answering the question – will it be here by xmas? In fact I still dont know if it will ever arrive.
There emails also show that they didnt even bother looking at my account as they said if I cancelled it will be okay as they only take the money when I the item is dispatched. I pay by cheque, the money is already in their account gathering interest.
I did get offered a £3 gift cert – lot of use that will be.
