This is such a pathetic whinge I know, but Akra Jr has started calling us “Mum” and “Dad” instead of “Mummy” and “Daddy” and I hate it. I know it’s a point that comes to us all – I’m not expecting him to still call me Mummy by the time he’s got children of his own after all… it’s just … I expected it to be later rather than sooner… like his teens.
He’s only three… still a baby really… it’s just wrong wrong wrong!

I don’t blame you for your feelings. That is young to be changing already.

Third daughter, who is 19, still calls me mummy. And not in the least bit whingey or whiney a way.
Some kids just don’t grow up :)

We had the same problem at the same age with all our children. It’s because of playgroup/nursery, and the relative ease of writing “Mum” as opposed to “Mummy”. I explained to my children that some people said “Mum” and some said “Mummy”, but that in our family we said “Mummy”. Stand your ground, and he’ll start calling you Mummy again soon.

Ben (who’s 4) calls us different things depending on his mood/situation.
He has picked up my (lazy) habit of shouting “Lucy” up the stairs if he wants something.
He finds it amusing to call he “father” or “Thom” when he’s trying to be serious.
And while he was playing with rhymes I was “daddy-baddy” & Lucy was “mummy-bummy”!
I expect you’ve got a few years of Mummy left (most of the time).

When my two year old started this awhile back I new the culprit was daycare. All it took was mention to Jess’s teacher to please call me Momma or Mommy and the problem was solved.
I can totally understand your feelings. I want to be a mommy forever too!

:( And I hate to break it to you, but having older siblings means younger ones call you that even sooner. Maybe it’s just a “phase” for now, though. My oldest called me Mom for a while when he was about 5, and then went back to Mommy until around age 11. But the younger ones now call me Mom as well.

Gosh, I seem to be the only one who wanted to be called ‘mum’ and not ‘mummy’. Is this on the same lines as using ‘what’ and ‘pardon’?
