Things have changed here at Pewari’s Prattle. No, it’s not the layout… I’ve updated the links but that’s not it either. Pewari’s Prattle is now proud to present brand new computers Chez Us.
They’re very sexy – black and silver units and black TFT monitor and a very comfortable keyboard to touch type on. Doesn’t the text on here look so much better when it’s been typed on a really good quality keyboard?! You know I’m right.
Of course, I could give you all the specs but then I’d have to go and ask Akra what they were again. Just trust me when I say that they’re far faster than our 1999 model computers. I didn’t realise how bad my old computer had got until this lunchtime when I realised that this new computer hadn’t actually crashed yet. I’d been using it for over two whole hours and I hadn’t had to reboot! Such luxuries.
I still have all the things to install over onto this PC yet, like email client, windows critical updates, decent desktop picture, etc. We had a slight hiccup last night when we installed our anti-virus software and found our network was riddled with win32.parite.b (otherwise known as win32.pinfi apparently) – mainly due to Akra forgetting to put a virus checker on the laptop for the last three months. Fortunately, it was easily cleaned even if it was rather prolific. Bit of a shock to have a virus on computers you’ve had less than 24 hours.
Now the big question is what do I install next (after the 37MB critical updates finish – I so miss ADSL) – email client or Morrowind? Decisions, decisions…

Firstly isolated each machine in the network until everything was known to be clear again, put it into safe mode and ran the latest Norton AntiVirus. Kept repeating (as it’s a prolific little bugger) until it was all gone.
There should be more specific details on the Symantec site ( http://www.symantec.com ) about what it puts in the registry, etc.
Good luck!
