Dolphin Bathrooms

4th April 2003 · No Comments

Do you remember that part in the film Independence Day when Jeff Goldblum’s dad says to the president:

You didn’t think they actually spent ten thousand dollars for a hammer and thirty thousand for a toilet seat, did you?“.

Well nothing would surprise me anymore since we had to replace the toilet seat in our bathroom and they’ve charged us £114.80! That’s ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN POUNDS AND EIGHTY PENCE just for the seat/lid piece – no fitting included! One from B&Q would only have cost about 20 quid … maybe 40 for a really deluxe one.

When we first got our bathroom fitted courtesy of Dolphin Bathrooms we were extremely impressed by their professionalism, quality of product, and the efficiency and skill of their fitters. We recommended them to anyone who asked. Okay, so it wasn’t a cheap bathroom, but neither was it the most expensive we could have got… and you get what you pay for, right? Hmm…

Nothing major, but some parts are a bit plasticy … part of the shower bracket fell apart within a few months of installation, the hinge on the toilet seat broke (we are not heavy people – this is not unusual wear and tear we are talking about here) but as these both occurred within the first year they fell under the guarantee and were replaced quickly. Now the seat hinge has broken again and I feel obligated to replace it with the manufacturer’s product rather than cheapy diy shop replacement seeing as how we’re selling the property on. Am not impressed by Dolphin anymore.

Why am I not just leaving it for the next occupier to do something about and letting them fork out the £115? It has a lot to do with my experience of our last move and that tale I shall leave for another day…
