Pop Psychology

3rd April 2003 · 14 Comments

I wonder if anyone has done a study on the psychological effects of blogging? If they have then they probably describe the heady early days of weblog euphoria where all you want to do is go and faff with the template and post complete gibberish. I find myself popping back to check that it’s still looking nice (not that I’d changed it in the meantime, mind) and to see if anyone’s left any comments (thanks Uli). A virtual caress of the site in a dark corner while hissing “my precioussssssssssssss”.

Hmm, maybe I shouldn’t have admitted that.

In case you’re worried that I’m neglecting my son during my new found addiction, I would like to point out that today is my “day off”. Thursdays are the day when Akra Jr. gets to go to nursery to socialise and eat them out of house and home for a change while Mummy gets to put her feet up (well, in between cleaning, paperwork, chores…) Just as well really as Akra Jr. has never been very tolerant of Mummy using the computer. His usual tactic is to physically drag my hand off the mouse (but dearest, I’m just checking my email… I’ll only be a minute…). Still, he doesn’t complain too much when it’s the Cbeebies website that we’re visiting! Funny that.

    *cheers Mes*

Not for the want of trying, that’s for sure :o) Mind you, it’s usually just at the point where I actually want him somewhere else, like in the bath, when he suddenly finds that his imagination is more important. He knows Mummy is a soft-touch with cuteness.

Hehe. I spent AGES playing around with my journal when I first got it. And then again, when I got a paid account and could make more drastic changes.

Oh, and I need to turn off my firewall to see your comment posting thing. I think that’s related to the pop-up window functionality. So until you mentioned it, I didn’t realise that you could comment here.

On a lighter note, Can’t wait to see Jon again this weekend

Oops! I don’t think there’s much choice in terms of the pop up window function thingy – blogger (at least the cheap/free versions) doesn’t have a comment functionality of it’s own – hence the third party script. I assume all of them would involve a pop up window as a result :o(

Quickly succumbed to paying to get rid of the ad at the top though – was annoying me greatly! Don’t think I can stretch to the more expensive accounts though – at least not until I’ve proved to myself I’m going to stick with this.

Yes, looking foward to seeing you too! I think Akra Jr. has changed quite considerably since you saw him last!

Paid account? Does this mean you have RSS now?

No – just means I paid to remove the ad at the top – works out about a tenner a year. Figured it was worth it because it was annoying me.

I’m becoming more and more convinced that you should have an LJ account. You know you want one.

Actually, I know Alasdair has a blogger-to-LJ crossposting tool. I might see if I can get hold of it, or something and then rip your Blog entries across without telling you! Muhahahaha!

wintermute is probably best placed to explain it but it’s something to do with a recognised standard so the blog can be read in a third party reader.

So you can get programmes which check all the blogs you read regularly and they’ll get all the updates for you without you having to go into each one.

Heh. Right, Basically it’s a standardised format for exchanging data beween sites.

If you can use it, and how to do so, will depend on how your site is set up. For example, at LiveJournal, a feeder account has been created at http://www.livejournal.com/users/pewari/ which you can now add to your friends page, if you have an LJ account.

Check your local FAQ for details on other sites. Any specific questions, I’ll be glad to handle. My eddress is attached.
